Art is an important element in a child’s ability to think outside the box. Without it the world would be full of yes and no; right and wrong; black and white.
At Brighton Private School, our art program introduces students to the elements of art: line, color, composition, and values. From there, we apply these elements as we learn about art periods and artistic masters. Students are introduced to mediums such as oil pastels, acrylic paint, watercolor paint, chalk, and clay.
Art is taught, in isolation, for 45 minutes once a week by a qualified Art Teacher. It is also evident throughout the days and weeks as children use art and its properties in their regular classroom.
Our art program encourages children to discover their individuality through each project. Just like a fingerprint, no two finished art projects are alike. While we praise individuality, we also give projects with steps to follow and examples as guidance. Artistic success is achieved by listening, respecting others for their interpretations and uniqueness, and trying things that pull them outside their comfort zone at times.
Every week our walls are covered with artistic discoveries that remind us how beautiful and inspiring children can be.
Each year we host an Art Auction at our Open House event which showcases both individual and collaborative art pieces. This fundraiser and family evening draws bids to earn money for our school as we teach students the value of being a patron of the arts.
