First Grade is an amazing adventure in creativity and budding independence. This dynamic classroom is alive with energetic rich inquiry based exploration throughout the day. Engaged and productive students are inspired through instruction, interactive curriculum combined with independent work. Thematic curricular units provide ample resources and solid framework for individual and whole class learning. Language takes on new importance as students read with confidence and find their voice in writing. Lessons and instruction that interlink subjects give students a large canvas on which to practice multiple skills within different disciplines.
First Grade Class Projects give our young inventors experience with planning and completing rubric based assignments. Organization and perseverance are integral aspects that drive success for creating multi-step projects. Presenting their work in front of the class, students are empowered to not only build skills in public speaking but to also see their work as a shared commodity.
Working in community groups as well as independently, student’s progress through language and math (at the beginning of the day), social studies, the sciences and arts, P.E. and Spanish (afternoons) through hands on activities, movement and exploration all day long. Learning and understanding deepen through projects, field trips, class and homework. Children have a variety of choices throughout the day, strengthening their abilities to manage their time and work.
Everyday is filled with opportunities to build character and develop strong friendships. Teachers work individually with students to expand their talents and strengthen their areas of improvement no matter the subject or skill area. First Grade is a time of measurable growth and maturation, it is also the time for exciting undertakings that grow our brains, get us dirty and make us smile.
